Sophomore right-hander Henry Bugai pitched a no-hitter on Wednesday as Coginchaug rolled to an 11-1, five-inning victory over Portland at home.
Bugai was backed by a 7-run first inning from the Blue Devils, who won for the fifth time in their last six games in improving to 7-4. Bugai threw 10 first-pitch strikes and finished with five strikeouts.
Ethan Covello powered the Blue Devils at the plate with 4 hits and 4 RBIs, while Jayson Penney had 3 hits and Jeremy Mangiameli contributed a hit and drove in a run.
Mike Quesnel drove in the lone run for Portland (0-9).

Carson Brown, who was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs, pitched 3 hitless innings for the win, walking 1 and striking out 2. Marlin Stavola threw 2 innings out of the bullpen. Auggie Albert drove in 2 runs and scored 2 for Old Saybrook.

Old Lyme 9, Hale-Ray 2: The Wildcats (8-3) scored 4 runs in the first inning and broke it open with 3 in the fourth to beat the Noises (1-8) in Moodus. Old Lyme had 15 hits. Powering the team’s attack: Ava Roth (2 for 4, 1 run scored, triple, 3 stolen bases, 2 RBIs); Emma Bayor (2 for 4, triple, RBI); Jenna Schauder (2 for 3, 1 run); Grace Phaneuf (2 for 4, 1 run, double, 2 RBIs); and Anna Eichholz (2 for 4, 2 runs scored, double, stolen base). Bayor pitched a complete game for the win, striking out 9 and allowing no earned runs.
