Coginchaug scored two first-inning runs and tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning Tuesday to pave the way to a 6-2 win over Valley Regional in Shoreline Conference baseball action in Deep River.

Anthony Morro had 2 hits, drove in 3 runs and pitched 4 2/3 innings for the victory — the Blue Devils’ fourth in the last five games. Coginchaug, the defending Class S champion, improved to 6-4 while handing Valley just its second loss in eight games.

Jeremy Mangiameli pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out 3, for Coginchaug. Ryan Grant and Jayson Penney had a hit each as part of the Blue Devils’ 7-hit day.

Valley’s Colin Carver went 5 innings, striking out 7, in taking the loss. Reed Beighau drove in a run for the Warriors.

East Hampton 7, Old Lyme 6: The Bellringers held off the visiting Wildcats as Baden Plante got the final out of their Shoreline win. After losing 4 straight, East Hampton has won 5 in a row to improve to 6-4. Luke Paluska, on in relief of starter Carter Scovill, went 4 2/3 innings for the win, allowing an unearned run on 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3. Javy Diaz was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases, while Avery Hall 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Bellringers. Jordan Warecke hit 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs for Old Lyme (4-6) and Grady Lacourciere had 2 hits and scored twice.

Haddam-Killingworth 4, Old Saybrook 1: Alex Sheehan pitched a complete game for the Cougars, allowing an earned run and striking out 8 for his first win, as H-K improved to 7-3. Blake Kamoen had 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Lucas Kamoen had a hit and drove in a run for the Cougars. Auggie Albert had 2 of the Rams’ 7 hits. Jake Butler took the loss for Old Saybrook (6-3).

Morgan 9, Portland 5: Ethan Ranaudo allowed six hits and five runs over six innings, striking out nine, for the win and Garret Garbinski pitched one inning in relief out of the bullpen for the Huskies. Brady Fritz led the Morgan offense with 3 hits and Ranaudo had 2. Austin Vess had an RBI hit for the Highlanders.

Coginchaug 15, Valley Regional 7: The Blue Devils broke open a 9-7 game with 6 runs in the home half of the sixth inning to pull away from the Warriors (4-5). Amanda Case (4 for 4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Jackie Kelly (3 for 4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Emilie Hatje (3 for 5, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) and Natalie Ness (2 hits, 3 RBIs, 3 runs) had monster days at the plate for Coginchaug (8-1). Paige Konopka chipped in with 2 hits, while winning pitcher Mia Poturnicki went the distance for the win, allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits, walking 3 and fanning 1. Vivian Paradis was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Warriors and Mckenzie Mule had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.
