DURHAM — Mia Poturnicki pitched a complete-game two-hitter Thursday and Emilie Hatje drove in two runs to spark the Coginchaug softball team to a 5-0 victory over Middletown.

Poturnicki allowed a second-inning single to Angelina Vartuli, a third-inning hit to Katelyn Coggshall, walked one and struck out five.

Allison Strang and Hatje hit run-scoring singles in the second inning to put the Blue Devils (4-1) ahead early. Coginchaug tacked on two runs in the fifth, highlighted by Ava Marrena’s RBI triple, to provide Poturnicki with a cushion.

In the sixth, Strang led off with a single and eventually scored on Hatje’s single.

Hatje, the team’s No. 9 hitter, singled in each of her three at-bats. Strang was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Marenna and Natalie Ness also scored for the Blue Devils.

Emily Pulino and Arieliz Perez split the pitching for Middletown (1-3). The Blue Dragons host Avon on Monday.

Coginchaug meets unbeaten Haddam-Killingworth for the teams’ only regular-season meeting on Monday in Higganum.

Cromwell 22, Westbrook/Portland 0: Malena Signorello hit a grand slam and combined with Lily Kenney on a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts for the Panthers (6-1). Lisa Litevitch had the lone hit for Westbrook/Portland (1-4).

Baseball

Middletown 7, Rockville 4: Caleb Reed pitched 5 innings for the victory and was 2 for 4 at the plate to lead Middletown to its fourth win in 5 games. With the game tied at 1, the Blue Dragons scored 3 runs in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to pull away. Reed allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits and struck out 6. Luke Weisenberg, the Blue Dragons’ winning pitcher on Wednesday, was 3 for 3 with an RBI double. Eric Wilson had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs, Diego Carrillo doubled, and Ryan Quinn, AJ Quinn and Dan Lapham had singles for Middletown. Justin Almeida got three outs in the sixth after coming on for Reed. Rockville did not bat in the seventh because of inclement weather.

Cromwell 13, Westbrook 0 (6 innings): Connor Slifer’s went 6 no-hit innings, walked 1 and struck out 10 as the Panthers won on the road. Ian McMillan was 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs in a 16-hit Cromwell attack, Colby DiMenna was 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored, Tysen Billings was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI and Sam Stergos homered for the Panthers (4-2).

Old Lyme 7, Portland 4: Maverick Swaney was the winning pitcher in Old Lyme’s Shoreline Conference game at Portland. Spencer Rosado took the loss for Portland. Mike Quesnel homered for the Highlanders (0-4). Old Lyme is 3-2.
