The Middletown High softball team opened the season Tuesday with a 19-1 home victory over Northwest Catholic as junior pitcher Emily Pulino allowed 3 hits, walked none and struck out 6.

Freshman catcher Abby Young had 2 hits, including a bases-loaded triple, as the Blue Dragons totaled 8 hits.

Pulino also drove in 3 runs and Pilar Brooks had 2 hits for Middletown.

The Blue Dragons are scheduled to play at Bristol Central on Friday.

In other softball action Tuesday:

Haddam-Killingworth 5, Valley Regional 0: Left-hander Kaleigh Bodak notched her third victory of the season and Brooke Hickman pitched the seventh in the Cougars’ shutout win at home. Bodak allowed 1 of Valley’s 2 hits and struck out 11. Ivy McNeil, Bella LaTorre and Caley Napoletano had RBI singles for H-K (3-0), while Annabelle Zajac scored 3 runs. Anna Benson pitched for Valley (1-2).

Cromwell 12, Morgan 0 (5 innings): Lily Kenney shut out the Huskies on 1 hit and struck out 6. Jamie Anderson had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs and Malena Signorello had 2 doubles for the Panthers (3-0). Kasey Edwards had the lone hit for Morgan (1-2).

Old Lyme 14, Westbrook/Portland 0 (5 innings): The Wildcats improved to 3-0 with a steady offensive attack. Ava Roth, Jamie Bucior, Maddie Hubbard and Grace Phaneuf had 3 hits apiece. Anna Eichholz hit a home run and Emma Bayor was 2 for 3 with a double and triple and 3 runs scored. Roth drove in 2 runs, Bucior scored twice and drove in 2, Hubbard had 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, and Phaneuf had 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Victoria Gage was the winning pitcher. Gabby Cordin took the loss for Westbrook/Portland (1-2).

Amity 9, Mercy 2: Mercy fell to 0-3 with the loss. Gwen Religa allowed just 3 earned runs in going the distance.

Baseball

Middletown 15, Bloomfield/AAE/Bulkeley 0 (5 innings): Luke Weisenberg allowed one baserunner (walk) and struck out 15 as Middletown won its second straight to start the season. Caleb Reed was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and 3 runs scored to lead the Blue Dragons’ offense. Dan Lapham had 2 hits, while Corey Turcotte, Justin Almeida, Diego Carrillo, AJ Quinn, Ryan Quinn and Eric Wilson had 1 each.

Girls Lacrosse

Sheehan 17, Mercy 7: Lily Schoonmaker scored 5 goals and Maddy Carbone had 2 for the Tigers (0-2). Jayna Mackenzie led Sheehan (1-0) with 6 goals and Allie Ottochian added 5. Mercy goalie Callia Borkowski made 9 saves.
