In a typical Morgan-Valley Regional slugfest, the No. 2 seed Huskies outlasted the No. 7 Warriors down the stretch for a 44-41 Shoreline Conference tournament quarterfinal victory Saturday in Clinton.

Valley wiped out a six-point halftime deficit by holding Morgan to two points in the third quarter to carry a 35-34 lead into the fourth.

The Huskies vaulted back into the lead down the stretch and led 42-39 when Alex Fratamico drove the lane with 3:02 to go. Valley’s final field goal came with 56.8 seconds left, a Sam Hutchinson lay-in off James Marsden’s inbounds pass to make it a 42-41 game.

A layup by Drew Nye with 40 seconds to go brought Morgan’s lead back to three. Valley had two looks from 3-point range in the final 8 seconds, the last by Simon Partyka that spun around and out with less than a second to go.

Morgan will host No. 6 seed Portland in the semifinals on Tuesday (6pm).
