Pictured: Abby Bradbury, shown in a game earlier this season, led the Warriors’ scoring efforts Saturday.

Each time the Valley Regional girls basketball team has ventured outside Shoreline Conference play, coach Jaimie Bickelhaupt’s Warriors have been successful.

And Saturday was no exception.

The undefeated Warriors beat another opponent on the road, Somers, 41-37 in a close game throughout. Junior guard Abby Bradbury scored 19 points, junior forward Olivia Cunningham had 10 and Liz Allen added 8 in Valley’s ninth win of the season.

Despite the loss, Somers still owns the best record in the NCCC at 7-2. Sydney Cassidy led the Spartans with 19 points.

Valley beat a now six-win Granby team, also a member of the NCCC, in late December. And last weekend, the Warriors defeated CCC member Northwest Catholic by five in West Hartford.

“That was a great picked-up game for us,” said Bickelhaupt. Northwest’s coach, Alison Connors, and Bickelhaupt were one-time teammates at Springfield College. Connors initiated the conversation about a crossover game, which only helps Valley with its preparations for a postseason run.

The Warriors have a final out-of-conference remaining on Jan. 29 against Fitch of Groton. The ECC’s Falcons are 9-3 overall.
