North Branford 28, Haddam-Killingworth 27
Mason Provencher threw a 12-yard TD pass to Jack Meehan late in the fourth quarter to complete a second-half comeback by the Thunderbirds (2-4), who trailed 24-6 at half. Provencher accounted for two other North Branford scores with a 20-yard pass to Alec Johnson and a run of 2 yards.
Orion Inkel scored three touchdowns for the Cougars (1-4), two on passes from Alex Phipps and another on a 9-yard run. Kevin Cavrell kicked field goals of 35 and 25 yards for H-K.
“That was a disappointing result, obviously,” said H-K coach Tyler Wilcox. “We told the kids at halftime that North Branford wasn’t done and, hats off to them, they weren’t.”
“It was the little things that hurt us,” added Wilcox. “We just have to work harder and clean up our attention to detail.”
The Cougars play again at home next Friday against Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby, while the Thunderbirds host SMSA on the same night.
