Senior Dario Rigano scored two goals as Middletown extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches with a 3-1 soccer victory Thursday over Bristol Central.
Rigano also assisted on junior Marshall Butler’s goal in the Blue Dragons’ season opener at Rosek-Skubel Stadium. Middletown posted an 8-0-1 record in the shortened 2020 season.
“Dario had an excellent game – he also hit the crossbar twice,” Blue Dragons coach Sal Emanuele said, “and freshman keeper Tyler Han (2 saves) had a great game in his first-ever high school match.
Emanuele also praised the play of Butler, Kris Bocchio, Nicholas Edward, Angelo Santostefano, TJ Allegretti, Joao Oliveira and Alex Foligno.
Carson Rivoria scored for Bristol Central and Rams keeper Harrison Ross had 2 saves.
Middletown visits Platt on Monday (3:45pm).

Mercy 1, Lauralton Hall 0
Mercy won its opener in Milford on an own goal at 6:25 of the first half. The Tigers outshot Lauralton Hall 19-3.
Melina Ford had 3 saves for Mercy. Alexandria Vincent finished with 10 saves for Lauralton.
Mercy plays its home opener on Tuesday against Amity at Xavier’s Larry McHugh Field (3:45pm).

Highlights: The Tigers rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win their season opener at home. Winnie Ciccarello (10 kills), Sophia Kuselias (22 assists) and Ava Chrostowski (15 digs, 5 aces) led the Mercy attack. Justine Manning had 6 kills and Jessica Cofrancesco had 8 assists for SHA.
