Coginchaug jumped out to a six-run lead after two innings, Kolby Pascarelli, Jeremy Mangiameli and Chris Carafeno drove in three runs apiece and the Blue Devils cruised to a 13-2 victory over Windsor Locks in a first-round CIAC Class S tournament game on Tuesday.
Mangiameli and Owen Clancy were both 3 for 4 with three runs scored, and Pascarelli, Carafeno and Anthony Morro had two hits apiece as host Coginchaug pounded out 15 hits. Jack Konopka added a two-run triple.
Pascarelli pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win. The senior left-hander allowed two runs (both unearned) on two hits, walked two and struck out five. Griffin Biro and Conner Willett finished up.
The No. 3 seed Blue Devils improved to 18-3 and will host No. 14 Somers on Tuesday in the second round. Somers defeated No. 19 East Hampton 11-4 in the first round.
No. 8 Cromwell, No. 16 Hale-Ray and No. 20 North Branford also advanced to the second round in Class S, while No. 10 Valley Regional (5-2 loss to Northwest Catholic) and No. 31 Old Lyme (5-4 walk-off loss to No. 2 Nonnewaug) saw their seasons end. In Class LL, No. 12 Xavier lost to No. 21 Shelton 13-7 at Palmer Field in Middletown.
Class M: Morgan 5, Ellington 3
Senior Ryan Hromodka’s 3-run home run put No. 16 Morgan (12-9) ahead for good and senior right-hander Rob Zirlis pitched the Huskies to a first-round win in Clinton.
The Huskies will play No. 1 East Catholic (21-0) in the second round Wednesday in Manchester.
Zirlis struck out 6. Ethan Reemsynder and Dominic Carpenter each had 2 hits for the Huskies and Garret Garbinski had one.

Victoria Gage was the winning pitcher and went 4 for 5 with a 2-run home run and 4 RBIs in the No. 9 Wildcats’ no-hit win over No. 25 Vinal Tech.
Old Lyme travels to No. 8 Cromwell on Tuesday for a second-round game, with the winner likely facing No. 1 Notre Dame of Fairfield in the quarterfinals.
Gage went four innings and Emma Bayor struck out the side in the fifth. Gage had 9 strikeouts.
