Morgan’s Garret Garbinski scored from second on a throwing error in the eighth inning as the Huskies rallied Wednesday to defeat Coginchaug 8-7 in a Shoreline Conference baseball game in Clinton.

The loss knocked Coginchaug into a first-place tie with Haddam-Killingworth at 7-2 after the Cougars routed visiting Westbrook 17-2.

Morgan rallied from a 7-3 deficit with four runs on four hits in the sixth off reliever Griffin Biro.

In the eighth, Garbinski was on first when Brady Fritz bunted toward the mound. Coginchaug went to first for the attempted out, but the ball was thrown into right field and Garbinski beat the throw to the plate.

Ryan Inglis had three hits and Bailey Goss drove in three runs for the Huskies, who won for the third time in nine games. Garbinski was the winning pitcher and sophomore Nicholas Spaziano threw three innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.

Coginchaug starter Alex Tawa pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits, walked one and struck out six. Evan Faiella doubled, homered and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils and Jeremy Mangiameli was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

East Hampton 3, Portland 1

In the Shoreline game at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, James Quinn pitched a 3-hitter, struck out 10 and walked none in the Bellringers’ win. Dan Cascio and Josh Wagner (RBI) had back-to-back doubles in the first inning , and Colby Camp followed with an RBI single. Cascio and Wagner finished with 2 hits apiece. East Hampton (4-4) was the host team.

Jayden Kilham (2 hits) had a bunt single, stole a base and scored on Spencer Rosado’s single for Portland (1-7) in the third inning. John Wolff took the loss.

Haddam-Killingworth 17, Westbrook 2 (5)

Alden Halfinger had two hits and drove in four runs to power the Cougars (7-2) a day after they lost at home to Coginchaug. Matt Miranda and Alex Sheehan had two hits apiece in H-K’s 15-hit attack.

Callen Powers got the win, his third of the season.

Jack Naccarato had a double and RBI for Westbrook (0-9). Tyler Hendrixson took the loss.

Sophomore Lily Kenney pitched her second five-inning perfect game of the season, striking out 10. Kenney also hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Jamie Anderson, Victoria Wiatak, Malena Signorello and Erica Dewey added two hits apiece for the Panthers (6-1). Christina Lombardi took the loss for Old Saybrook (2-5).

Old Lyme  8, Valley Regional 4

Winning pitcher Victoria Gage held Valley to four hits and allowed just two earned runs, walked one and struck out eight. Gage also excelled at the plate with three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI.

Also starring at the plate for Old Lyme: Alison Ward (2 for 4, 3 RBIs), Jenna Schauder (3 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Emma Bayor (2 for 4, double, RBI).

Valley’s Kenzie Mule took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings.

Coginchaug 12, Morgan 0 (6)

Senior Kelly Boothroyd tossed a one-hit shutout and also went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 RBIs for the Blue Devils (5-2).

Coginchaug had 15 hits. Amalia DeMartino was 3 for 5 with a double, RBI and 3 runs scored and made a couple of dazzling plays at shortstop. Third baseman Ava Marenna was 3 for 4 with a triple, walk, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Catcher Dana Boothroyd was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and center fielder Jackie Kelly had 2 hits and 1 RBI.

Morgan fell to 3-6.
