Gorham Has 33-Point Night, Cougars Win Third Straight

Posted by

Mason Gorham was at it again on both ends of the floor Monday night and Haddam-Killingworth won its third straight to rise above .500 in the Shoreline Conference standings.

The sophomore guard matched his career high of 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Cougars defeated host Westbrook 60-43.

H-K (5-4) has won four of its last five after a 1-3 start to the season. Gorham was 9 of 21 from the field and matched his career-high set last season against Morgan.

“I know Mason has been scoring, but I think we are playing like a team more than ever before,” Cougars coach Jim Abbott said. “Everyone is being productive, whether it is scoring or defense or sharing the ball. It has been fun to watch.”

Tate Callender contributed 8 points for the Cougars, who pulled away by outscoring Westbrook (0-9) 19-9 in the third quarter, with Gorham scoring 10 points.

Brenden Engels led the Knights with 12 points.

Elsewhere in the Shoreline on Monday, unbeaten Morgan won for the ninth time and moved closer to securing the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. H-K is among several jockeying to secure a top-four seed, which would clinch a bye into the quarterfinal round. Cromwell, Old Lyme and Portland are 6-3.
