Haddam-Killingworth broke into the win column Monday as Carly Rettberg scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Cougars to a 45-29 girls basketball victory over visiting Hale-Ray.
Kaleigh Bodak put up a double-double — 15 points and 12 rebounds — and also contributed 3 steals and 3 assists in the Cougars’ first win in seven Shoreline Conference games.
Rettberg dished out 5 assists and Audra Yazmer contributed 6 points for H-K.
The win also marked the first for Ann Deibert as H-K’s varsity coach.
“This was a great team win,” Deibert said. “Twelve of our 16 field goals were assisted. We were able to put together a full game of solid play, and tonight certainly sets the tone for the second half of our season.”
Hale-Ray freshman guard Winnie Ciccarello led the Noises with 16 points and Brooke Praskievicz chipped in with 9.
