MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown High cross country teams split the outcomes of their 5K races against Newington on a cloudy, balmy Wednesday at Vets Park.
The boys team won 25-30 on the strength of six finishes among the top 11, while the girls team was defeated 23-34.

Middletown senior Sean Ahern, who won his first three races this fall, finished one second behind Newington junior Mike Bohlke’s winning time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds. Blue Dragons senior Tommy Cunningham was third in 17:03.
Both Ahern and Cunningham had personal-best times.
Also capturing top 10-finishes for Middletown were seniors Justin Karpel (fifth) in 18:10, Nick Carlson (seventh) in 18:55 and Mitchell Hart (eighth) in 18:59, while junior Anthony Serrano was 11th in 20:15.
On the girls side, Blue Dragons freshman Elise Kennedy was runner-up to Newington’s Katie Bohlke (20:51). Kennedy came across in 21:55.
Middletown senior Hajar M’hamdi came in fifth in a time of 23:07. Sophomore Melissa Carlson also cracked the top 10, finishing sixth in 23:57. Freshman Ashley Clow led a pack of four MHS runners when she came across 10th in 24:26. She was followed by sophomores Audrey Rancourt (24:33), Natalie Forno (25:44) and Tierra Giannelli (25:46).
Middletown’s next race is Friday at Meriden’s Hubbard Park against Maloney.
