Bellringers Punch Ticket To Tournament; Brady Scores 28

Posted by

Senior guard Stephen Brady poured in a game-high 28 points Friday night and East Hampton defeated Portland 77-50 to qualify for the Division IV state tournament with its eighth victory of the season.

The Bellringers (8-6), who snapped a three-game losing streak with the Shoreline Conference win, outscored the visiting Highlanders (5-10) 41-13 in the first half.

Sophomore Jye Lynch finished with 18 points and junior Grant Arcidiacono chipped in with 13 for East Hampton.

“We did a nice job of looking for each other and taking good shots,” Bellringers coach Parker Strong said. “But this all started with defense. If you hold anyone to 13 points at halftime, you should be in great shape.”

Strong credited Chris Weyrauch, the only other senior on his roster, with leading the team on the defensive end.

“Chris did a great job setting the tone on defense and doing good work on the glass,” Strong said.

Grant Collins was the only Portland player in double figures, scoring 10 points. The Highlanders return home for a Tuesday game against Westbrook.

Next up for East Hampton is a road game against Hale-Ray (9-5), which has won three straight.

“Hale-Ray is good and a well-coached team,” Strong said. “Our complete focus is on what we have to do to prepare for Tuesday.”
