File photo: Bushay, left, has scored 57 points Middletown’s last two games.
Shadae Bushay Sophomore guard Shadae Bushay will be hard-pressed to top the performance she had on Thursday night, scoring 37 points for host Middletown in its 67-60 CCC girls basketball victory over RHAM.
Bushay made five 3-pointers and Tyah Pettaway contributed 15 points to bring Middletown (7-8) within a win of qualifying for the Class LL tournament.
Bushay scored 20 points in a win over Platt on Monday.
“Shadae played probably her best offensive game, but I also give a lot of credit to her teammates for recognizing the night she was having and being unselfish to find her on many occasions,” Middletown coach Rob Smernoff said.
The Blue Dragons fell behind in the first quarter but came back with a 20-point second quarter to take a 33-27 halftime lead. They extended their advantage to 11 points after three.
“The kids played very well tonight,” Smernoff said. “We fell behind early and really struggled in the first quarter, but as this team continues to show, they stuck together.”
Julia Hancin led RHAM (2-12) with 17 points and senior center Marisa Lee, who will play on scholarship at the University of Hartford, scored 15. Lee missed RHAM’s first 11 games because of injury.
