OLD SAYBROOK – Coginchaug rolled to a 21-point lead at halftime and finally gave Todd Salva his 400th win as coach, 58-42 over Old Saybrook in Shoreline Conference play Thursday night.

The milestone win comes in Salva’s 29th season with the Blue Devils. He took over the program from coaching legend Wally Camp – Salva’s mentor and former coach – after the 1990 season. Camp finished his career with 508 victories.

“The number means I have had the pleasure of coaching a lot of terrific players both on and off the court over the years,” Salva said after the game. “They are their wins, not mine. I am just grateful I was able to share it with them.”

Justin Penney scored 21 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to help the Blue Devils (2-7) to a 13-6 lead after one quarter and 31-10 margin at the break.

Jeremy Mangiameli added 12 points for Coginchaug and Chris Onofrio chipped in with 11. The Blue Devils made nine 3-pointers, with Penney accounting for five.

Mike Almada led the Rams (0-7) with 11 points.
