Bellringers Make It 7 In Row After Defeating Coginchaug

EAST HAMPTON – Angela Mercaldi and Hannah Barrientos scored 12 points apiece and East Hampton pulled away in the second half to beat Coginchaug 37-28 in a Shoreline Conference girls basketball game Friday night.

The unbeaten Bellringers (7-0) trailed by one at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 13-4.

“We made some adjustments on offense and were able to open up the floor and get some better movement and spacing,” East Hampton coach Shaun Russell said. “We got some good looks in the first half and did not convert.

“Defensively, we were good all night. We played well in the second half overall. It was a nice team effort.”

Danielle Adams added 9 points for the Bellringers. Coginchaug’s Jessica Berens led all scorers with 14 points.

The Blue Devils have lost three straight.

PORTLAND – Ava Hurley hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points and 5 assists, and Olivia Doering chipped in 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 5 steals in the Highlanders’ Shoreline Conference home win.

Westbrook’s Jami Sacco had one of the best offensive nights of any Shoreline player with 27 points.

DEEP RIVER – Valley point guard Cade Ensinger had a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Warriors won their fourth straight Shoreline Conference game.

Jake Grow scored a game-high 21 points and Gavin Grabowski had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the Warriors, who outscored the Thunderbirds 36-18 in the second and third quarters.

Mike Sitro led North Branford with 18 points.
