Bushay Scores 15 In MHS' Win; Mercy, Xavier Prevail

Posted by

MERIDEN – Sophomore guard Shadae Bushay led all scorers with 15 points to lead Middletown to a 54-27 victory over Maloney in a CCC South girls basketball game Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 13-point lead at halftime. They put the game away by outscoring Maloney 19-8 in the third quarter.

“Overall, I was very pleased how we started tonight in both the first and second half,” Middletown coach Rob Smernoff said. “Our defensive intensity and attention to detail to the defensive plan was outstanding. Shadae Bushay played tonight like the player we see every day in practice. Just a very positive night overall.”

Deziar Rose-Daniels scored 10 points for Middletown, and Smernoff also got significant contributions from his bench.

The Dragons are in a stretch of playing three straight games on the road, continuing with Friday’s game at Bristol Eastern. Middletown returns home Monday for a CCC game against Plainville before playing four of its next five away from home.

“The good news is we will end our season playing five out of six at home,” Smernoff said, “so we just need to continue to be road warriors throughout most of January.”
