Nkonoki, Wilborn Lead Way In Middletown Road Victory

SIMSBURY – Middletown hit nine 3-point shots and senior Jonathan Nkonoki led the Blue Dragons with 13 points in their season-opening 58-40 win over Simsbury on Thursday night.

Sophomore center Elijah Wilborn had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Kenny Fountain scored 11 points and Donte Pope pulled in 7 rebounds in the Blue Dragons’ balanced attack.

Simsbury’s Ian Calabrese led all scorers with 19 points.

Old Lyme 80, Old Saybrook 47

OLD LYME – Wildcats center Aedan Using finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists in his team’s Shoreline Conference home win.

Brady Sheffield had 13 points and John Almy had 12 for the Wildcats. As a team, Old Lyme had 22 assists on 28 field goals.

Davis Brown paced Old Saybrook with a game-high 32 points.  

Westbrook 39, Coginchaug 36

DURHAM – Jack Naccarato was a one-man scoring sensation in Westbrook’s Shoreline Conference win, his game-high 26 points seven fewer than Coginchaug had as a team.

The Blue Devils struggled from the floor, with Justin Penney (13 points) their only player in double figures.

CLINTON – Zach Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in Morgan’s big fourth quarter, leading the Huskies past East Lyme in an out-of-conference home game.

The Huskies trailed 11-10 at the half and 27-26 after three quarters before scoring 22 in the fourth.

HIGGANUM – Grant Collins scored seven points in a big fourth quarter that lifted Portland past the Cougars in Shoreline Conference play.

Mason Piersall led three Highlanders in double figures with 16 points, followed by Bryan Dinnis (13) and Collins (12).

Sam Erskine hit five of H-K’s 11 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points.
