Middletown High soccer players Zach Hartzell, senior Jayden Koski and sophomore Dario Rigano received All-CCC South recognition following the Blue Dragons’ first winning season since 2014.
Hartzell, a junior, scored a team-high 14 goals as Middletown posted an 8-6-2 record and had the best mark (6-4) in the South Colonial Division. It was the first title of any kind for the program since 1999, when the Blue Dragons were champions of the old Northwest Conference.
Koski was recognized as Most Consistent Player by his teammates, and senior Colin Chlebowski received the team award for outstanding sportsmanship.
The Dragons qualified for the state tournament for the second year in a row, losing a first-round Class LL match against Shelton on penalty kicks.
“We improved a great deal this season and took another step toward moving the program forward,” coach Sal Emanuele said. “We’re very proud of what our student-athletes accomplished this season and looking forward to another great season next year.”
Eighteen Middletown players made the CCC All-Academic Team, Emanuele said.
